Machine Learning, Big Data, and related quantitative sciences have been strategic to Amazon from the early years. Amazon has been a pioneer in areas such as recommendation engines, e-commerce fraud detection and large-scale optimization of fulfillment center operations. As Amazon has rapidly grown and diversified, the opportunity for applying machine learning has exploded. We have a very broad collection of practical problems where machine learning systems can dramatically improve the customer experience, reduce cost, and drive speed and automation. These include automated pricing and demand forecasting for hundreds of millions of products, predicting ad click probabilities, ranking product search results, matching products from multiple sources, classifying products into large taxonomies, information extraction and sentiment analysis for product reviews, voice recognition, natural language understanding, question answering and conversational systems.

Amazon is looking to hire Business Research Analysts to join their team in Bengaluru and Chennai.

Challenge Format:

  • Round 1: 1 Machine Learning question (using Python/R)
  • Round 2: 1 programming question to be solved using Python

About Team:

The RBS is an integral part of Amazon online product lifecycle and buying operations. The team is designed to ensure Amazon remains competitive in the online retail space with the best price, wide selection and good product information. The team’s primary role is to create and enhance retail selection on the worldwide Amazon online catalogue. The tasks handled by this group have a direct impact on customer buying decisions and online user experience.

Overview of the role:

The Business research analyst (RA) will be responsible for continuous improvement projects across the RBS teams leading to each of its delivery levers. The long-term goal of the RA role is to eliminate Defects that impact selling partners or customer experience, and the secondary goal is to enhance GMS (General merchandise sales)/ FCF (Free cash flow). This will require collaboration with local and global teams, which have process and technical expertise. RA is an Independent Contributor (IC) to perform a Big Data Analysis to identify defect patterns/process gaps for complex problems, to create long-term solutions to eliminate defects/issues and to report impact/results. RA should work across VP teams , regional and/or cross-regional organizations to drive improvements. Leads projects and opportunities across the Operations (FCs, CS, Supply Chain, Transportation, Engineering) that are business critical, and may be global in nature

Key Responsibilities for this Role:

  • Works on well-defined projects. Typically works on low to a mid complex problem (or) use-case of large problems.
  • Drives clarity through conducting analysis to support making a decision
  • Should be able to influence Senior leaders and Business partners on a given project by using data and anecdotes on size, scale, complexity and impact.
  • Works autonomously; feedback on suitable models and frameworks for validation may be needed from Senior RAs and guidance from Engineers on the hosting model.
  • Solves a specific problem/use case under guidance. Develop, test and prove a scalable lightweight solution and its impact.
  • Measure the outcome/progress, present updates and communicate milestones in a structured manner to customers /Business partners
  • Develop models using readymade algorithms. Build solutions/models for a single language (or) well-defined scope.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SQL, Handling large data sets, Statistical analysis and developing classic ML models in Python. Adept at leveraging existing ML models / Data Science methods and fine-tuning them to drive the desired output.
  • Set data strategy for a given problem: data needs to be feed into the algorithm, data transformation and feature engineering
  • Mentor team members on Tech skills and support team to upgrade team skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of Statistics, Data Sciences and Machine Learning. At least 24 months and above of prior work experience
  • Minimum 1 Year relevant experience in analytics and delivering a project using ML, Python & SQL skills.
  • Experience in managing Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) jobs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master degree / MBA
  • Experience in product development
  • Expertise in Deep learning models
