Your job

Hotels.com is seeking a Software Dev Engineer to work in a fast-paced, agile environment within the Core Services area. Core Services teams own high performance tier 1 services that provide data to all Hotels.com pages across all platforms. Services owned by Core Service’s team serve on an average of tens of thousands of requests/sec with a strong emphasis on performance, automation, monitoring, innovation, DevOps and continuous improvement.


  • Developing in Java and working in a fast-paced agile environment developing features planned as part of a roadmap.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and stakeholder teams when needed.
  • Write clear, concise and well-tested code.
  • Contribute to the system architecture.
  • Proactively monitor the health of applications owned by the team and address issues
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Be very focused on delivery whilst not comprising on quality.
  • Encourage people to look at new ways of doing things.


Hotels.com doesn’t believe in matching people against a list of buzzwords. They look for smart people with good general programming skills as they believe that clever developers can learn new technologies quickly and well. However, it wouldn't hurt if you have experience with some of the following (or at least an interest in learning them):

  • Good experience of Java server-side programming.
  • You know what it takes to design good REST-ful APIs
  • You wouldn’t mind exposure to Scala and Kafka
  • You are an advocate of TDD and continuous deployment
  • You are passionate about reducing cycle time and know the value it brings to your business
  • Experience of developing software in an Agile environment with a DevOps mindset.
  • Attitude is very important! You will need to be passionate about improving quality and processes
  • Value the importance of quality for the whole organization and not just to the application
  • Welcome a changing environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Motivated and enthused by difficulty & challenge, coupled with a strong competitive nature to excel and be the best
